Hello and welcome to New In Christ, the radio
teaching ministry of Calvary Chapel in Georgetown,
TX. When Jesus gave His disciples the instructions
for the "Great Commission" He said in Matthew
28:18-20 "All authority has been given to Me in
heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age." Amen.
Now they were to go out and make disciples. How I
love to be around new believers. It's just fun to
see them discover for themselves what it means to be
forgiven for all their sins and have the hope of
eternal life. They begin to comment on all the
changes other people see God is making in their
lives.
Where does the power to make disciples come from? In
Matt 28:18 Jesus said "All authority (power) has
been given to Me in heaven and on earth." How much
power do you suppose Jesus has?
One lady tells the story of her family who had
gathered at her house for a yearly reunion. She
said, "We went to church together, and while we were
in church, singing the opening hymn, an earthquake
hit. The building shook, and the overhead lights
swung back and forth. In true California style we
never missed a beat, even though we had to grab the
pews in front to steady ourselves. Following the
service, the pastor came over to greet my out of
town relatives. My son-in-law, who had never
experienced a powerful earthquake, grinned as he
shook the pastor's hand and said, "I've been to a
lot of church services in my life, but I can
honestly say this was the most moving experience
I've ever had."
What kind of power does it take to change just one
human heart so that he or she can become born again?
Well what kind of power does it take to move the
surface of planet Earth or to set the universe in
motion? Jesus told us the answer when He said "All
power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth."
How does Jesus exercise His power? In Matt. 9:6
Jesus said "But that you may know that the Son of
Man has power on earth to forgive sins" then He said
to the paralytic, "Arise, take up your bed, and go
to your house."
You might have come to the place in life where you
are wondering if God could or would be able to
forgive you for all of your sins. It is like a
tremendous weight pressing down upon you. People
want to know God, they want a relationship with Him,
but they also know that they have failed, they have
blown it, and they don't know that if they
approached God, if He would forgive them and give
them a new start.
Can I tell you today with all certainty that Jesus
Christ not only has the authority, power and the
permission to forgive you, the truth is . . . He
really wants to! OK Bob, how? Well the bible says,
"If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just
to forgive you for your sins, and cleanse you from all
unrighteousness."
It all starts when you come to the place where you
can agree with God that what you did was wrong. That
is confession, and that takes a broken and contrite
heart, which God loves. Next, you must turn away
from your sin and walk with God, that's repentance.
Walk the talk if you will . . .
Then you simply believe in His power to forgive you,
and just receive it. That takes faith. Jesus Christ
has power on Earth to forgive your sins. Do you
believe it? Then just receive it. "But Bob you don't
understand how rough things are in my life lately.
I'm trying to walk with Jesus, but I keep
stumbling."
"As soon as things are going well, Satan comes along
and tempts me, and I fall." All I have to do is
answer, "But . . . Jesus has all power and
authority, even over Satan, for they are not equals,
but Satan is subject to Him. Turn from sin, pray
about it and trust the Lord.
The good news of the gospel is this; no matter who
you are, or where you come from, or what you have
done, you can be born again, and begin a new start
today.
In 2 Corinthians 5:17 Paul boldly proclaimed,
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; old things have passed away; behold, all
things have become new."
This is the theme verse for our radio broadcast, and
it's the message we have for the world. The desire
to fulfill the Great Commission is at the core of
the "New In Christ" radio ministry and it's the
motivation behind all teaching efforts of Calvary
Chapel of Georgetown.
Yours In Christ,
Pastor Bob
